Road Trip – Day Fourteen- Monterrey, CA

A few days ago we visited Monterrey, CA. It is a good area for a vacation with many restaurants and activities for families and tourists. We visited the Aquarium there which is the largest one I have ever seen

My favorite exhibit was called the Kelp Forest. It was a tank about the size of my house that looked as though it acurately recreated the ocean floor. It was filled with water from the bay and had realistic looking waves. Apparently the waves are required to make the kelp grow. It was filled with many types of fish and other ocean life forms. Watching it was very peaceful and felt like you were seeing anothe world.

The habitat of many organisms were recreated.

The had a large Shark echibit but all the sharks were quite small like these Hammerheads.

Another favorite was the Jelly Fish exhibits. They had more types of Jellies than you could imagine.

They had a number of these small aquariums that looked as though the colors were picked out by a designer for esthetic purposes.

Here is another of the “designer” aquariums.

They had a Sea Otter exhibit which was really fun. These little guys seemed to be performing for the crowd. They were swimming around holding these little balls which I guess were filled with shrimp.

They also had a penguin exhibit but I like the one at the Detroit Zoo better.

The scenary in this area is also something you should see.

I wanted to spend more time here but we could not find a place to camp that was close enough.

On the way out of town we finally found some Sea Lions. I guess they are not as rare or shy as we thought.

There were litterally hundreds near Fisherman’s wharf.

You would not believe how many. Nor would you believe how loud they were barking at each other.

The small ones were really cute like the Sea Otters.

The big ones were a little scarey. I think this one was the leader since he was on the highest point. He was HUGE!
